Player Playwrights returns with a new season of play readings, special events and contests in September at our old home upstairs at the North London Tavern.
Our first evening at 7.30pm on Monday 16 September is a double bill of short(ish) plays:
Permafrost by Sean McMahon
It's February 2022 in the days leading up to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A pair of young European tourists travel through the Siberian wilderness on their way out of the country. As the hours while away on this seemingly endless train journey, the uncertainty in their burgeoning relationship is tested by the looming conflict at their door.
Sean McMahon is a writer from the Northeast of England, now living between London and Paris. He wrote Permafrost based on real experiences in Russia in early 2022 and plans to turn the piece into a full-length play.
The Passion of the Playboy Riots by Neil Weatherall
The Passion of the Playboy Riots is set backstage at the nascent Abbey Theatre in Dublin, where cultural nationalists W. B. Yeats and Lady Gregory are challenged by a new breed of militants personified by young firebrand Patrick Pearse.
Neil Weatherall is a playwright and film maker. This is his second play. He is currently writing a spec TV script for a limited series set in the same world as this play.
