DEBT is set in a debtors prison in London during the early eighteenth century. Incarceration is barely tolerable for prisoners who still have access to funds; it is lethal for everyone else. The play concerns a musician who shares a cell with two other debtors. It contains dark comedy and has strong resonances for our own times.
Peter Carty is a writer and journalist, contributing to the Guardian and other publications. His writing is on literature syllabuses overseas. DEBT is his first play.
